Samuel Ray Mason

Samuel Ray Mason, a lifelong resident of Henryetta, walked through the heavenly gates and into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 28th in Tulsa, OK with his loving wife of 51 years Glenda and adoring daughter, April by his side. He was 73 years, 3 months, and 14 days of age. Sam was born October 14,1949 in McAlester, OK to Samuel Wayne and Sylvia (Sharp) Mason.

A 1967 graduate of Schulter High School, and 1969 graduate of Oklahoma State Tech Okmulgee, Sam was an exceptionally gifted athlete, having played baseball and basketball for both schools. Many teammates and opponents still claim him as the most talented athlete they have ever seen.
Sam worked for the City of Okmulgee for over forty one years before retiring in 2012.

Sam married the love of his life, Glenda Hall, on September 3rd, 1971 and was an immensely devoted husband of over 51 years.

In 1986, after 15 years of marriage, their prayers were answered when they adopted their only daughter April. Sam was an extraordinarily loving father from the first time he held April until his last breath.

Sam was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and go camping when time allowed, but his greatest joy in life was his family and supporting his daughter in all her activities and endeavors.

Sam is survived by his wife Glenda Mason of the home, daughter April Mason of Henryetta, OK, sister Pat Jones and husband Terry of Preston, OK, sister Wanda Been and husband Rick of Coalton, OK, sister in law Marie Mason of Henryetta, as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, extended family, other relatives and many special friends who loved him dearly.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Sylvia Mason, brother John Mason, and mother in law Louise Berry Hall.

Pallbearers will be nephews Mike Hardgrave, David Hardgrave, David Anthony Hardgrave, Dr. Nick Hardgrave, Joey Hardgrave, Doug Hardgrave, and special friends Donald Hale, and Kelly Ingold. Honorary Pallbearers will be special friend Everett Allen and nephew Ramon Florez.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday February 4th at 10am at Immanuel Baptist Church and will be officiated by nephew Kevin Jones, with interment to follow at Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday February 3rd from 3-8pm. Services are under the care and direction of Integrity Funeral Home.
