Ruby Jean Gasaway

April 14, 1935 — February 18, 2026

Ruby Jean Gasaway, a resident of Henryetta, Oklahoma, passed peacefully to her heavenly reward at the age of 90 on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was born on April 14, 1935, in Hanna, Oklahoma.

Ruby met and married the love of her life on October 11, 1956, and they began a life together raising children...daughters...five of them. Although they still had no sons, they eventually gained sons-in-law who she loved like her own yet was still very proud to tell everyone she had five daughters. She enjoyed going to church and attending with her longtime friends at the Church of Christ in Weleetka. She especially loved visiting at lunch afterward. She also loved visiting the Church of Christ in Henryetta where she had many friends and family. She loved her Savior and loved that her children knew the Lord.

Ruby loved to travel...anywhere...but never until she had put on her red lipstick. She would quickly ask you where you were going in anticipation that you might take her with you. She never really cared where to, just that she could get her lipstick on and go and spend time with you. She loved going on cruises and wanted to attend all the activities. She also enjoyed camping and fishing and loved taking the girls on camping trips or simply a ride through Talimena scenic drive or to Robbers Cave. When the grandchildren arrived, she continued her traveling legacy by taking her grandchildren camping and teaching them fishing and campfire cooking which she continued, in turn, with her great-grandchildren.

She loved laughing, and contrary to how most people knew her, she could be quite comical and loved doing something funny while having her picture made just to get a laugh. She was a gardener and would oftentimes remind us to bring our dying plants to her intensive care unit. She also enjoyed flowers and watching the birds, especially the cardinals. As her memory began to fade, she loved looking out the window at the birds and watching squirrels she believed were meerkats. Ruby loved babies. It did not matter if she knew the person or not, she would make her way to any baby in the store and start playing with them.

Ruby was a caretaker at heart. After a lifetime of caring for her husband and children, she became a healthcare provider and worked for a while providing care for the elderly. She enjoyed visiting with them and feeling useful again. During her last couple of years, she became a "caretaker" in her dementia memory care unit, making sure the staff knew when one of the residents needed something or that she would go get it herself. The family is very thankful and appreciative for her caring and loving staff at the dementia memory care unit at Highland Park in Okmulgee. The family is also thankful of the for the respectful and helpful nurses over at Complete Hospice.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gasaway, grandson Christopher (C.J.) Gilbert, parents, Carmie Mae (Nuckolls) Bullard and Jessie David (Dave) Bullard, brothers, Jessie Bullard and Edward Monroe Bullard.

Ruby is survived by her daughters and their families, Elizabeth Pistole and husband, Gary, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Debbie Gilbert of Henryetta, Oklahoma, JoAnn Pigeon and husband, Virgil, of Weleetka, Oklahoma, Susie Walcher and husband, Rex, of Henryetta, Oklahoma, and Paula Kissee and husband, Roger, of Henryetta, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her brother, Leroy Bullard.

Ruby has a host of grandchildren, Jennifer Rector and husband, Jesse, Rebecca Parks and husband, Jason, Michael Pigeon, Shannon Henry and husband, Jordon, Rachel Pigeon, Katie Sanford and husband, Derek, Sydney Madison and husband, Jordan, Brandon McCoy and wife, Rae Ann, and Elizabeth Minyard, plus many great-grandchildren.

Ruby's life was one of faithfulness and love for her family and friends. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.
