Roger Neal Holmes Sr. the son of Henry and Inez Holmes, was born November 13, 1949 in Uvalde Texas. He departed this life on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the VA hospital in Muskogee Oklahoma at the age of 70.
Roger attended elementary and middle School in Texas and graduated high school in Sallisaw Oklahoma. On November 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to Delona Brown. This union was blessed with three children, Neal, Christie, and Melissa. Roger was a devoted husband and father and had a strong work ethic. February 3, 1971 he went to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was transfered to Fort Riley's Big Red One platoon in Kansas. He then spent 2 months in Germany. After he departed from the army, Roger then started trucking for Tamko in Phillipsburg, Kansas for 16 1/2 years, during this time he drove 2 million miles accident free. In his career he became an owner/operator with his son Neal. Throughout that time they drove 1 million miles through 48 States.
In his spare time Roger enjoyed wood working and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with his children and grandchildren. In his later years he started a coin collection.
Roger was always proud to share stories about his grandchildren. He attended as many of their events as he possibly could. He was excited to say all his grandchildren granduated from college.
Proceeding him in death were his parents Henry and Inez.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Delona Holmes of Dewar, OK; his three children, Neal Holmes of Dewar, OK; Christie Christensen and husband Shane of Phillipsburg, KS; and Melissa Stritzke and husband Brad of Claremore, OK; his grandchildren Shelbie Tharman and husband Bryant; Bethanie Ellis and husband Andrew; Cassidy Stritzke; and Nathan Stritzke; and his great grandchild Vanessa Ellis with one on the way, Two sister's Myrna and husband Butch Goad of Checotah OK, and Joycee Holmes and many nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by many.
Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:00AM Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at the Dustin Cemetery Pavilion in Dustin, Oklahoma.
