Rhonda Darlene Morton passed unexpectedly at her home in Hoffman, Oklahoma on September 13, 2025. Rhonda was born on December 12, 1959, in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Kenneth and Ruth Sumpter, the third of three daughters. She graduated from Henryetta High School in 1978. She met her future husband, Clay Morton, the summer after high school graduation, and within a year of meeting, the two of them were married on July 6, 1979.
Rhonda worked at Wal-mart after graduation, then was hired by the Troy Aikman Center for a few years before taking a job with the Henryetta Public School system, where she was employed from 1994 to 2023. She loved taking care of people and enjoyed cooking for the students at the elementary school, giving special attention to those children in need. She later was hired to work for the school system's custodial department. She was outgoing and loved her daily interactions with both teachers and students. She also enjoyed working with best friend Sharon at the basketball game concession stand and spent many a Friday night manning the ticket booth at the Henryetta High School football games. She was a proud Henryetta Fighting Hen.
Rhonda is proceeded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Jessie "Ruth" (Radford) Sumpter. Kenneth lived with Rhonda and Clay for several years before he passed in 2022. She catered to him constantly, cooking his favorite meals and baking his favorite pies. They enjoyed each other's company, scheduling their week-ends around Oklahoma Sooner and Dallas Cowboy football games as well as tuning in for all the Sooner softball games.
Rhonda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Clay Morton, and by sons Chris Morton and granddaughter MaKayla of Henryetta; Josh Morton (Amanda) and granddaughters Elizabeth and Emily Morton of Broken Arrow. Sisters Paula Long (Marty) of Henryetta, nephew Sam Tipton of Oklahoma City and niece Stacy Paulino (Josh) of Albany, New York; Suzan Thompson (Bill) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and nieces Laura Thompson of Longmont, Colorado, Amy Thompson and Jenny Thompson (Zane Poling) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and several special cousins and friends. Rhonda's love and care for her family will be missed more than any words can express.
