Patricia Gale Henderson

March 27, 1935 — February 10, 2020

Patricia Gale Henderson, a former resident of Tulsa passed away Monday, February 10th, 2020 in Barling, Arkansas at the age of 84. She was born March 27, 1935 in Henryetta to Samuel Jackson Henderson and Stella Elizabeth (Copeland) Henderson. Patricia, known as Pat, Tricia, and Aunt Rish graduated from Henryetta High School in 1953. She received her nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma and worked as a surgical nurse for several years. Leaving the nursing profession, she became secretary to the president of Standard Oil Co. She served in this capacity until his retirement and then continued in the word processing department until her retirement from Amoco. Needing something to keep her occupied, she began another career with Red Crown Credit Union where she remained until finally retiring for good.

Patricia was a lifelong caregiver Beginning with her nursing career, she later assisted her aging parents until their passing and then helped her older sister, Shelma and husband Ed Shaw until they moved to Norman. In her later years, she moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas to live and help her sister, Ramona until her death. After Ramona's death, it seemed to family members that she had lost her purpose as the family caregiver. Patricia was an excellent cook. She loved preparing meals to share with her family. That was one of the ways she showed her love to our family. Patricia loved music. Growing up the four siblings regularly sang together as a quartet at church camp meetings. Patricia, Carl and Ramona sand the old Cokesbury favorites while Shelma accompanied them on the piano. This joyful foundation led them all to serve in their respective church choirs. She was our coordinator for decorating the graves of family members for years. Professionally, she was a longtime member of the Desk & Derrick Association until her retirement from Amoco, which promotes professional development of women working in the petroleum industry. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Shelma Henderson Sowers Shaw, Ramona Henderson Sills, a brother, Carl Henderson, and nephew Jerry Shaw.
Also preceding her in death were her brother in laws Bill Sowers, Ed Shaw, and O.A. Sills Jr. and sister in law Nila Thompson Henderson.
Survivors include nephews, Kent Sowers and wife Lori of Norman, Alan Sowers and wife Janet of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Craig Henderson and wife Karen of Oklahoma City, Brian Henderson of Oklahoma City, Mark Sills of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Nieces, Amy Henderson of Oklahoma City, Pamela Sills Chambers and husband David of Houston, Texas.
