Michael John Dowling was born on August 29, 1988, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Charlie and Evelyn Dowling. He was raised in Eufaula, OK, alongside his beloved siblings: Vanessa Timothy, Marissa Lewis, Charlie "CJ" Dowling Jr., Stephanie Dowling, and April Dowling. Michael came from a large, loving family and shared a special bond with his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he deeply cherished.
Michael began his education at Eufaula Public Schools before transferring to Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah, OK, where he graduated with his high school diploma. During his time at Sequoyah, he helped create a drumline group that performed at sporting events, cheering on teams and bringing energy to the crowd. His time at Sequoyah left a lasting impression, and he remained a proud and connected alumnus throughout his life.
After high school, Michael answered a higher calling and traveled across the United States-and even to Mongolia-doing mission work on various reservations. He attended Indian Bible College in Flagstaff, AZ, and Mokahum Ministry School in Cass Lake, MN. He also served on the On Eagles Wings team for four years, spreading hope and faith. Michael eventually returned to Oklahoma to study at the College of the Muscogee Nation.
Back in his hometown of Eufaula, Michael was known for his karaoke talent-he could light up any room with his voice. He was also fiercely competitive when it came to darts, often challenging friends and family to prove he was the best. Michael loved spending time with his large, close-knit family, whether on float trips, playing horseshoes, dominos, or simply enjoying each other's company. His presence always made family gatherings brighter.
In 2018, Michael met the love of his life, Maleah, at the College of the Muscogee Nation while both served on the student senate. Over the next seven years, they built a beautiful life together and shared the joy of raising their daughter, Dani Belle. Michael loved road trips, coaching softball, and attending stomp dances and powwows with his girls. Those who knew him say he found his true home in the life he built with Maleah and Dani-one full of love, laughter, and unshakable support.
Michael was a lover of music, a fan of the Ninja Turtles, a talented graffiti artist, and an incredible storyteller. He could light up any room with his smile, his laugh, and his sharp, hilarious wit. His hugs were legendary, and his advice-always heartfelt-stuck with those lucky enough to receive it. To know Michael John was to love him. He never met a stranger and left every person he encountered better than he found them.
Michael's life was filled with love, compassion, and vibrancy. He offered kind words, warm smiles, and encouragement to all. His spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him.
We will miss you dearly, Michael John Dowling-but we know Heaven is a whole lot cooler with you in it. Rest easy, and know you will never be forgotten.
