Helen LoResse Brown was born in Four Corners, Oklahoma on February 13, 1931, to James and Effie Loyd. She was the 8th of 9 children. Everyone knew her as LoReese. She married the love of her life, Raymond Shannon Brown “Ray” after graduating from St Michael’s in Henryetta. She loved being a mother to their three children, Raymond, Sherrie, and Michael.
After working at the Denim Jeans Factory in Weleetka, then JC Penney’s as a salesclerk, she started working as a billing clerk for the City of Henryetta in August of 1962. She remained with the city for 29 ½ years as City Clerk and Acting City Manager. Citizens of Henryetta knew they could always count on her to handle their concerns and problems…. Always with a smile and sense of humor. She enjoyed her “city hall girls”, the ladies that worked with her for years. They remained friends for many, many years.
LoReese was known for her intelligence, quick wit, kindness, natural beauty, and her sense of style. She was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her clothing.
After her retirement, she loved spending more time with family and traveling with Ray in the Winnebago, as well as studying genealogy and sewing.
LoReese passed on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the age of 90 years and 11 months. She was a resident of Fountain View Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brown, her son, Raymond Brown II, her parents, James and Effie Loyd, 3 brothers, Willard Loyd, Raymond Loyd, and Leon Loyd, 5 sisters, Ruth Loyd, Dimple Lewis, Leona Lester, Dorothy “Dot” Scherf, and June Collins.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie LoReese Brown of Austin Texas, and son Michael Ray Brown and his wife Michelle Brown of Henryetta, three grandchildren, granddaughter Melissa Howard and her husband Kevin Howard of Glenpool, granddaughter Sara Brown of Broken Arrow, and grandson Myron Stout and his wife Emeline Kuhner-Stout of Austin, TX, and 6 great grandchildren, Brett and Ethan Howard, Lexi and Peighton Ewen, and Olivia and Naomi Stout as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will miss what a wonderful mother and grandmother she was. We are so blessed for the time we had with her. We are at peace knowing she is in the presence of our Lord and family. She can never be replaced but we hope her memories live on with us and the many lives she touched. We thought she was an Angel on Earth.
