Roy Edward Madden, a resident of Weleetka, passed away Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 in Weleetka, OK at the age of 73. He was born September 15, 1947 in Holdenville, OK to Leonard Ray Madden & Hazel Jean (Mangrum) Clark.

Roy Madden was born and raised in the heart of cowboy country in Holdenville, Ok. He lived life to his fullest with so many achievements and accolades it’s impossible to list them all. Right out of high school he wanted to serve his country so he enlisted in the U.S.A.F after his service to his country he had a goal in mind. He went to work for the Dept of Defense and packed up and moved to all places a little town called 29 Palms, California in middle of the Mojave Desert. This is where he started another chapter in a storied life that’s where he found the love of his life, his cowgirl mermaid and his loving wife of over 40 years Lisa Madden. During his time in 29 Palms, he became involved in military rodeo and developed a base rodeo team and was responsible for the 1st rodeo on the military base always having a love for rodeo he worked with others and co-founded the Military Rodeo Association. Along with doing this he was also involved with the local chamber and community helping to organize the local rodeo’s, training horses, giving riding/roping lessons, being a farrier, member of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Posse, and a reserve Sheriff, and hitting every rodeo and team roping possible, along with his commercial work everything from working with fighting bulls, clydesdale, and stagecoaches. With all this going on he still had time to excel his career and retiring as one the top ranked civilian officials on the base with multiple national and federal recognitions under his belt he always had obligation to help his community and everyone around him. Always knowing he wanted to retire in Oklahoma he came back for a family reunion and came home and told his family, I bought our next chapter in life. Upon moving to Weleetka, OK, with dream in hand and not being the type of man to be idle with his time. He started chasing his other dreams and goals from performing his cowboy poetry, and one of his original loves music he started writing and performing his brand of western/cowboy music performing with many great people and places. With all this going on he saw an opportunity for Henryetta with the rich cowboy heritage/history he went to work with the local chamber and many great people to organize and revitalize the local rodeo scene with some of the biggest rodeos this area has seen in quite some time. See he loved helping the local community and even more his fellow person he was also involved with creating an equine therapy program for people in for recovery always having a passion to help both human and horse. With all his accomplishments one of his favorite was when he was voted as the Henryettan of the year. A few years later he had another proud moment he was inducted into the Military Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. See he was always learning, always working, always listening, always treating people with the upmost respect and courtesy. There are so many more stories to be told and even though his life was cut short he lived his life to it’s fullest chasing every dream he could and living his life by the cowboy code.
