Tyler James Firey

Tyler James Firey passed away on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at his home west of Sand Springs, Oklahoma at the age of 31 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Tyler was born July 17th, 1992, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Sand Springs schools his entire life and graduated from Charles Page High School in 2011. Tyler is the son of Kenneth "Ray" Firey and Diana Rene (Dunn) Firey. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Chris Firey and his wife Kasie and their son Noah, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and also his sister, Angela Firey-Stewart and her husband Brandon Stewart from Del City, Oklahoma. Tyler is also survived by a myriad of uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews on both sides of the Firey and Dunn families. Tyler is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Kenneth Firey and Sylvia (Huff) Firey and his maternal grandparents, Curtis Wayne Dunn and Deborah (Bennington) Dunn.
Tyler was a bright, caring, fun, sweet and loving young man. As his friends, fellow workers and relatives learned of his passing, there are two characteristics that we have heard many times in describing Tyler: his kindness and compassion. His coworkers said he was a responsible, hard worker and would do whatever job needed to be done - and never hesitated to help anyone who needed help.
Tyler had a gentle spirit. He was usually very quiet but his heart and mind were very deep and discerning. He wrote songs and poems that reflected his deep thoughts about life. He played several instruments: ukulele, guitar, concertina, accordion and piano. Two years in a row (2008 & 2009) he won first place in the Oklahoma Assemblies of God Fine Arts competition. He was in the school band and in the choir. In his senior year, the choir recorded a Christmas CD. When you play this album, if you listen carefully, you can pick out his sweet voice blending with the choir.
Tyler had a lot of love in his heart. We hardly ever parted without exchanging hugs and I Love You's. He loved every living creature. His pets included dogs, mice, his white rat, Eager and his ferrets Charley and Griffin. Charley died a couple of weeks ago and it was a very deep loss for Tyler. We are caring now for Griffin and trying to give him the same love as Tyler did. He loved our goats and one day I looked out on the pond and there was Tyler in the aluminum row boat with a goat on board. A goat in a boat. And, occasionally he could be a bit mischievous. Like the time he painted his dad's black shoes with white out. I guess he knew that Dad didn't have any white dress shoes. He loved nature and spent much time in the woods and trails around our country home. And he loved people - family, friends and the sick and elderly. He had a genuine way of caring for those in need that showed his sensitive and compassionate heart. As a driver for a funeral service, Tyler's gentle and caring attitude comforted many grieving families.
In addition to playing instruments, singing and recording, other hobbies included geocache, rubik cubes, (he could line one up in less than 30 seconds) sudoku puzzles, and solving any kind of puzzle or game that required a lot of thinking. He was enterprising even though only a few people would see it, he and his sister set up a stand at our driveway gate by the country road. There they offered snow cones and trinkets for sale to anyone who might be driving by. Tyler was a good skater and loved roller-blading through the house on our hardwood floors. He also enjoyed reading - fun reading and serious reading. His vocabulary included words that were beyond our common knowledge. And he really enjoyed exploring. Any new area he traveled to in his work or his leisure he would search for the different and
unique things to see and explore - looking in old buildings, looking under bridges, or climbing towers. He was an adventurer.

But, most of all, Tyler had a heart of gold. In his 31 years, he touched many lives with his quiet and caring manner. He left his tender affection on all the pets that he cared for. He spoke kind words to people who were sad and hurting. The warm embraces and "I Love You Too's" will forever warm our hearts. His life was cut short, but his presence will linger in the lives of all who knew him. Thank you Tyler for the love and joy that you have brought to this world - our lives are richer because of you.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday, April 15th at Firey Trails 19756 W. 61st Street, Sand Springs. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs. Services are under the care and direction of Integrity Funeral Service in Henryetta.
