John Robert "Bob" Thompson

John Robert "Bob" Thompson, a resident of Hitchita, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Muskogee at the age of 80. Bob was born on September 23, 1937 in Antlers, OK to John Marshall Thompson and Ruth Josephine Sherrin Thompson.

At an early age Bob moved with his family from Antlers to Arkansas. He grew up in Arkansas and attended school there. Following high school Bob joined the U.S. Navy, where he served a tour of duty in Korea. After four years of faithful service, Bob was honorably discharged from the Navy and he returned to Oklahoma. Bob married the love of his life, Janice Sue Overturff in Henryetta, Oklahoma on March 15, 1963. They remained happily married for 54 years until his death. Bob worked most of his life as a journeyman roofer. He was well known for how helpful he always was with others. Bob loved fishing and his family lovingly refers to him as the 'catfish slayer". Most of all, Bob was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed and remembered by many who knew and loved him.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother and father; a daughter, Tammy Renee Thompson; a granddaughter, Aubrey Rachelle Thompson; a grandson, Emery Bayens; a brother, Kenneth Harry Thompson; and three sisters, Carolyn Kelley, Wanda Stevens, and Imagene Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Thompson of the home; two sons, Russell Thompson and wife Michelle of Las Vegas, NV and John Robert Thompson Jr. of Henryetta; two daughters, Anita Thompson of the home and Rhonda Mikerney of Apache, OK; a brother, Charles Thompson and wife Charlotte of Caldwell, TX; 11 grandchildren, Lacy Thompson, Lucas Neff, John Michael Thompson, Mercedes Thompson, Audrey Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson, Corey Thompson, Jeremy Ray Howk, Derek Simmer, Tiara Simmer, and Miciah Simmer; four great grandchildren, Sophia Bayens, Bentlee Pitchford, Ian Howk, and Payton Jackson; as well as other extended family and many good friends.

Viewing for Bob will be held from noon until 8:00pm on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Integrity Funeral Service.

A funeral for Bob will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, February 26, 2018 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Hitchita with Rev. George Harris officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Lackey Cemetery in Hitchita under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Kenny Tyler, Marcus Overturff, Darrell James, Michael Thompson, Barry White, and Lloyd Cox. Honorary bearers will be Dustin Phillips and Jimmy Winters.
